Track Premiere: Kurt Deemer Band “Rain”

The new release by the Kurt Deemer Band is unlike most Covid albums you may have heard, predominantly becuase the “band” part has not been tuned down at all.  Not that we’ve anything against scratchy guitar and a plaintive vocal but some song require, nay demand, a more robust approach.  And that’s what you’ll find on ‘World Upside Down‘, the new album of driving ahead roots-rock that the Kurt Deemer Band is releasing on March 5th.

It’s been a steady route through music for Kurt Deemer, from starting with a 3-string guitar found in his sisters closet, through band admiration and a desire to follow the same path.  And then doing that – with bands such as the Shadowmen and Vulgaria.  The latter band eventually morphed into the Kurt Deemer Band.  The new album’s title is explained by Kurt Deemer “When I wrote the title track, I was thinking about the moment I sat in front of the TV, watching Trump being announced as the winner of the 2016 election.  I thought about the school shooting at Stoneman Douglas, and the way those students got out into the street to protest. Given everything that’s been happening lately — the political environment, the pandemic — I knew the album needed to be called ‘World Upside Down’.

The new song, ‘Rain‘, is an anthemic and uplifting rocker which celebrates the redemptive power of love.  And rock and roll – never forget rock and roll.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
