The great The Hanging Stars will be releasing a new album early in 2020 – it’s their third full album and it’ll be called ‘A New Kind Of Sky’ and it will be out on 21st February. The second single from the album, ‘Heavy Blue‘, is out tomorrow – and we’re happy to say that you can hear it here first.
The Hanging Stars are leading purveyors of that big-jangly power pop sound that blends in The Byrds and Big Star . In modern times they are akin to bands such as The Allah-Las, rooted in a signature sound but with a modern sensibility – regeneration rather than recreation. This has led The Hanging Stars to share stages with the likes of Teenage Fanclub, The Long Ryders, GospelbeacH and Wolf People. Pretty good company for songwriter, singer & guitarist Richard Olson, bassist Sam Ferman, drummer Paulie Cobra, multi-instrumentalist Patrick Ralla, and pedal steel player Joe Harvey-Whyte to be found in.
‘Heavy Blue‘ is the The Hanging Stars at their best, blending in a country sensibility for a tale of drunken debauchery seen through the eyes of an inexperienced young man.
