Once again we are offering a platform for new and emerging artists to share their music with our readers.
AUK is looking for new and emerging artists to feature in our Twang Factor 3 competition. Contestents from the two previous series have gone on to do headline UK tours, gain prestigious tour support slots with established artists, play festivals, including Black Deer, release albums (one of which gained a rare 10/10 rating here at AUK) and gain valuable exposure to a discerning target audience – the AUK readership. Each week we will feature a diferent artist, along with a clip of them performing an original song We will publish information and links to their music and social media. At the end of the run a distinguished panel of AUK hacks, cobbled together in the pub, will convene to pick the top three. Bungs, bribes and inducements of all kinds will be gladly received, but will have no bearing whatsoever on the panel’s final decision.
If you or anyone you know would like to enter Twang Factor 3 here’s how to do it:
Send a short clip of yourself performing an original song to thetwangfactor@americana-uk.com We will then view it and if you stand out from the crowd, we will be in touch. Chosen artists will then be invited to make an exclusive recording for AUK to appear on the site.
A few things to note:
- This is aimed at new and emerging artists. Already established artists should not apply – unless your name is Jeff Tweedy.
- Despite the contest’s name, a Telecaster is not obligatory, the feature is open to all artists working in the broad americana/folk genre – you know the kind of stuff we dig.
- Your material must be original – no covers please.
Good luck. We look forward to hearing from you.
To finish here’s Graeme Campbell, one of our many excellent entries from Twang Factor 2.

What’s the deadline for submissions?
Hi Jarkko, we’ve not actually set one. We will continue to consider new applications as long as the series runs. Having said that I would recommend that you get in as early as you can.
