Serious trouble. Hawks circle the skies above Los Angeles as Amanda Shires plots a seduction. ‘Hawk for the Dove’ is the new video from Shires’ seventh album. Shot in black and white, Shires is alone in a hotel room, sipping wine and dressing as she prepares to become a “hawk” in search of prey. The music is sinewy and muscular, certainly grittier than her earlier efforts. You can hear the rosin flying from her bow as she attacks a solo mid song. Her time working with the Highwomen seems to have spurned her to have some fun and explore nighttime themes. As the video unfolds she literally transforms into a yellow eyed hawk perched above L.A.
The clip was directed and edited by Amanda and Deren Ney, with director of photography Michael Schmelling. Amanda explains, “I want people to know that it’s okay to be a 40-year-old woman and be more than just a character in somebody else’s life. The song and the visual representation of the song deal with the emotions that turn prey into predator”.
‘Take it Like a Man’ the full length album that ‘Hawk for the Dove’ is drawn from will hit stores and streaming services on July 29, 2022.
