Grain Thief are one of the current crop of bands pushing bluegrass as a genre, looking forward and exploring new ways and new sounds. Here is a stunning take on ‘Before the Next Teardrop Falls’, displaying excellent vocal performances from Zach Meyer and Patrick Mulroy. Throughout, the musicianship from all the players is superb. The Dobro solo by Tom Farrell transports the listener to another place. This cover of the classic Freddy Fender song follows their recent album, ‘Gasoline’, which was an inventive, dynamic second full-length release from the 5-piece Boston string band. It’s absorbing stuff. Enjoy.

From up north but now hiding in rural Suffolk. An insomniac music-lover. Love discovering new music to get lost in - country, singer-songwriters, Americana, rock...whatever. Currently enjoying Nils Lofgren, Ferris & Sylvester, Tommy Prine, Jarrod Dickenson, William Prince, Frank Turner, Our Man in the Field...
Dobro? What Dobro? That’s a Paul Beard Deco Phonic resonator guitar. But anyway, thanks for pointing me to Grain Thief, another band heretofore off my radar. (You know you guys are costing me big bucks!)
