Great Lake Swimmers are about to release a deluxe version of their recent, well-received album ‘Uncertain Country’. The new edition, due to drop on 29th September 2023, will feature acoustic versions of six of the album tracks and the contrast with the rich, full, textured sounds of the originals is fresh and engaging. In support of the deluxe release, the band are in the middle of an extensive tour. Throughout October and November, there are dates in the USA and fans in Europe and the UK can catch them in December – details here.
‘Uncertain C0untry’ was the band’s first new record for five years, a period that has been somewhat…uncertain. From divisive politics to a global pandemic and concerns for the climate, it’s been a challenging time and themes of self-doubt and collective anxiety are threaded through the album. The ‘uncertain country’ referred to in the the title is not an actual place but rather the sense that the times in which we live are unstable and confusing.
Here is the fifth official video release from the album, recorded in a the great open space of a church, allowing the music to soar. Built upon a powerful, pulsing bass, the song is dreamily melodic, with ethereal vocals floating over swirling instrumental layers. ‘Promise of Spring’ is also notable for it’s intriguing, poetic lyrics, rich in imagery. This is beautiful stuff. Check it out.
