Here’s recent single “Delirium” from Scottish singer-songwriter C Duncan. The sound is lush, rich and full, with sustained notes providing the base from which the melody and rhythm grows. There’s a dreamy quality to Duncan’s voice as he finds a gorgeous tune amidst the swooning strings. The video is a whirl, all dizzying motion and ever-changing visuals that reflect the song’s lyrical message.
Duncan says of the song: “‘Delirium’, as the name suggests, is about confusion and exhaustion. It’s about finding relief in a state of delirium. Some things cannot be moved or changed, so why not surrender to them, no matter how precarious they might be.”
“Delirium” is the second single from Duncan’s forthcoming album, due out on 24th January 2025. “It’s Only as Love Song”, Duncan’s fifth album, is full of dreamy romanticism and absorbing, layered arrangements. Rather than a collection of different stories and ideas, the new album is more of a themed song suite, dealing with a personal experience of love and loss. Duncan explains: “I’ve been wanting to do a record that is unashamedly romantic and slightly old-timey. Quite a lot of my stuff has a hint of that, but this one is more kind of 1970s, with the string arrangements and a sort of warmth sprinkled on top. And whereas ‘Alluvium’ had the space to meander off into its own areas, with this one I thought more about pace and how each song could go into the next one. There is more of a theme – it’s a highly romantic record, which then goes from that into dealing with the loss of friends and relatives.” It’s warm and heartfelt – check it out.
