Josh Ritter is one of the best songwriters of his generation. His sense of melody is matched by his poetic lyricism, and both aspects of his gift are displayed in ‘Truth is a Dimension (Both Invisible and Blinding)’. A song of profound reflections while gazing at the stars is perfect subject matter for Ritter, whose easy, fluent vocal draws you into his imagination. Over gently rhythmic guitar, Ritter’s words spill from him in currents of thought. This is the sort of song that remains with you long after listening; it’s sonically beautiful, but there’s also beauty in its meaning and message.

As well as being a fine musician, Ritter is a bestselling author and a talented artist. In the video for ‘Truth is a Dimension (Both Invisible and Blinding)’, we see Ritter producing vibrant or moody paintings to accompany the words.

Ritter says of the song: “I don’t remember writing this song. I hardly ever do. I remember beginning with the daydream of a night drive through the desert. I arrived at a lookout and, here, looking up at the stars from the parking lot of my mind, I caught a glimpse of something thoroughly unexpected. TRUTH revealed itself to me for an instant. The song was done when I woke up from the daydream. I recorded this song in one take. Thanks to Sam Kassirer for realising that it was the one, and to Rich Hinman for the glorious solo. I released this song previously on an EP, lest something should happen to me and it be forgotten. Now, I’m doing my best to make sure that it won’t.”

The single is the latest from highly anticipated forthcoming album “I Believe in You, My Honeydew”, due out 12th September on Thirty Tigers. This is the follow-up to mini-album “Heaven, or Someplace as Nice” and the critically acclaimed 2023 full-length “Spectral Lines”. Produced by Sam Kassirer, the new album sounds rich and warm and is full of open-hearted, sensitive songs. The album features Ritter’s Royal City Band: Kassirer (piano, organ, synthesiser, accordion), Zachariah Hickman (acoustic and electric bass, thumb piano, mandolin), Rich Hinman (guitars, pedal steel, mandolin), and Ray Rizzo (drums, percussion). These talented players elevate Ritter’s magical collection. Be swept along by Ritter’s stream of thoughts and feelings and his fluent tunefulness.
