Kezia Gill has just released a new album, “All on Red”, produced and mixed in Nashville by US artist Alyssa Bonagura. It’s the first time one of Gill’s records has been pressed onto vinyl, and she’s proud of the result: “This is the best album I’ve written; it feels like a body of work that combines the sound and skill of Nashville with what I stand for in terms of storytelling and honesty as a proud British artist. The title of the record encapsulates the process. I went all in… I put it ‘All On Red’!”
Here’s the video for recent single, ‘Gut Feeling’, from the new album. At the heart of the song is Gill’s compelling, fluent vocal melody, delivered with her typically powerful voice. A strong strum, dynamic lead guitar and an urgent, propulsive rhythm reinforce Gill’s performance. In the video, a second image of Gill talking to herself represents that internal voice, that gut instinct, that we should all take more notice of: “And if there’s one thing that I know about a woman’s intuition // When it speaks, you better listen.”
Gill says of the song: “The next offering from the ‘All On Red’ album is a really personal number, born from a situation I found myself in where I had to listen to my inner instinct, against all the odds. That instinct stopped me making a huge mistake, and ultimately led to this entire album being made, so it’s truly a serendipitous track. The moral of the story is that you should ALWAYS listen to that ‘Gut Feeling’.” ‘Gut Feeling’ is a song that drives on with an insistent musical urgency – excellent stuff from the ‘Entertainer of the Year’ at last year’s British Country Music Association Awards. Kezia Gill is, indeed, a brilliantly entertaining live performer; there are dates for the “All on Red” UK tour throughout February.
