Video Premiere: David Picco “Waitin’ for the Summertime”

Just ahead of his new album, ‘Live It Down’, we’re pleased to premiere David Picco’s new video for ‘Waitin’ for the Summertime’.  It’s the second single from the album, which is Picco’s sixth full-length release.  The found-footage used in the video, creates a wistful, nostalgic feel that matches the gently dreamy tones of the music.  It is a hopeful song, focused on leaving behind difficult times and looking forward to something new.

All the songs from the new album were written during a three-month period during 2020.  Creating new material during the pandemic – with its practical and emotional challenges – has led to a change in direction from Picco, whose previous album, ‘Out of the Past’, was described by Americana UK as, “…a rock-infused country [album] with echoes of The Velvet Underground.”  The St. John’s, Newfoundland singer-songwriter says of the new music: “I guess you could say that ‘Live It Down’ is about coming to terms with the fact that life never turns out as planned.  I would describe it as contemplative, but musically I was going after something more dream-like and ethereal.”  Picco succeeds in creating reflective music with warmth and a quiet emotional power that pulls the listener in.  Look out for the new record, which is due for release on 26th February.  It promises to find a thoughtful space, somewhere between Kurt Vile and John Prine, which is quite some feat.  Enjoy.
