Video Premiere: Hannah Connolly “Reno”

Check out this live-in-the-studio recording of ‘Reno’ by Hannah Connolly.  The song is taken from Connolly’s recent album ‘Shadowboxing’, which is now available on white marble and clear vinyl here.

Alongside Connolly, a host of talented musicians recorded the song at Idyllwild Music Recorders in California: Jordan Ruiz, Ben Greenberg, Dave Pelusi, Ronan Delisle and Levi Matulis.  Together, they add subtle layers that elevate the song.  Gentle percussion sways while the pedal steel is a haunting voice, joining Connolly’s own pure vocal.  She sings beautifully, her understated style drawing us in and engaging us with the sensitive romance of the lyrical narrative.  Her poetic words reveal the challenges and complexities of long-distance love – it’s full of desire and hope.

The recording session was filmed by Ryan Neal Cordwell, who captures the intimacy of the song and Hannah’s performance.  Connolly says of the video: “Because we recorded ‘Shadowboxing’ during the pandemic, this was one of the first times we were able to perform ‘Reno’ live outside of the recording process.  I feel lucky we were able to capture this video when it was so raw. It’s special to look back on now and relive the moment when I was able to fully drop into the song with the band for the first time.”  The song, a co-write with Jordan Ruiz, is brilliantly crafted and a fine example of the melodic folk on ‘Shadowboxing’.  Enjoy.
