Runner-up in our readers’ poll Best UK artist category in 2025, Lady Nade possesses a wonderfully smooth, soothing voice, and the intimate warmth of her vocal performances is truly captivating. Her new single ‘Sober’ is typically absorbing with her soulful tones floating over upbeat rhythms, grooving bass and twanging guitar. Upbeat and brimming with confidence and positivity, the song is inspired by her own personal journey into sobriety; it’s hopeful and focuses on ideas of forgiveness and redemption in the context of a loving relationship. Nade draws on her experience of growing up around alcohol and its normalisation, before taking accountability and making the conscious, complicated choice to begin again. While delivered in the form of retro-leaning, up-tempo, feel-good music, this is honest, authentic songwriting from the heart.
The video captures the different aspects of alcohol consumption, interspersing care-free fun with darker moments of need – literally reaching for the bottle – and the emotional impact of solitary drinking. Filmed and directed by Jacobo Lagüela and edited by Carlos F. Blanco, it’s a fitting visual accompaniment to the song’s lyrical intent and the desire to move on: “Now that I’m sober, can I come over // See you again, and let me hold you //I’m taking the steps, I’m getting closer // Can we be friends, now that I’m sober // I know I have caused you so much pain // I been hurting and I’ve hurt you the same //I’m slowing down now I don’t need hit // Give me a chance and I’ll prove it.”
Following the uplifting ‘Rainbow’ and ‘One of Us’, this is the third single from the upcoming album “Identity” – an exploration of ourselves and who we are, which we can expect in October 2026. Lady Nade’s music crosses genre boundaries, blending jazz, americana, folk-pop, soul, country and rock to create her own style of soulful songwriting. Winner of an AMAUK award for ‘Best Song’, she is one of the most distinctive voices and songwriters in the UK. Her vulnerable lyrics of love, loss, and hope are both intimate and universal, and this collection might just be Lady Nade’s best yet. Enjoy.
