Check out the new single from indie roots-rock band Red Eye Ruby. ‘Howl’ is compellingly tuneful, with a melody that flows and tumbles on bubbling musical currents. The Minneapolis-based group is led by singer and songwriter Liz Collin, better known as Ruby Blu, and her voice is a distinctive instrument that instantly feels familiar yet fresh and new at the same time.
The accompanying video, created by Andro.Meta, is a vibrant visual feast, as bright and colourful as the song. Ruby Blu says of the song and video: “As the warm weather finally returns to Minnesota, I find myself reminiscing on this song from our EP released late last summer. ‘Howl’ is about moving around in the world, seeing the faces and places passing by after being cooped up for too long. Perfect for the summertime and all the merrymaking that comes with it! This video was created by my friend Andro.Meta using his special brand of AI artistry.” You can find other work by Andro.Meta here.
Ruby Blu has also published a book of poetry called ‘The Sun + The Moon + The Truth’, available at gigs and here. That lyrical flair and imagination is evident in Red Eye Ruby’s songs. ‘Howl’ is taken from 2022’s ‘The Ruby EP’, which features eight classic-sounding, soulful songs that cover themes from love and dreams to identity and feminist independence. Ruby Blu’s musical journey has taken her from guitar lessons as a nine-year-old to the quality songcraft and characterful delivery displayed on this record. Enjoy.
