Here’s the premiere of ‘Your Kinda Lovin’, a slow, heart-aching ballad from Californian singer Rosy Nolan. It’s a bittersweet song of longing and regret, of desire and surrendering to a situation that you know isn’t good for you. Doc Brown’s pedal steel guitar weeps, aching and beautiful, over Ryan Posner’s woozy upright bass and Doug Organ’s gently tinkling piano. These sorrowful layers are just right for Rosy Nolan’s distinctive tones; indeed, her voice is perfect for both heartbreak and country music. In the video, we find her wandering the Californian shore, lost in thought and what might have been, opening up emotionally: “Each time we go around, I lose another piece // Of who I was on that night you put your hooks in me // I’m not saying I wanna give you up // But your kinda lovin’ hurts too much.”
Nolan told AUK about the video: “I had the pleasure of working with my 20-year-old nephew on this video. Dashiell Dekker is a fantastic director and cinematographer with a skill level well beyond his years. I wanted to shoot something simple on the beach to reflect the aquatic themes of the song, and he suggested we head down to the Santa Monica Pier at sunset and shoot it run-and-gun. He captured some truly gorgeous shots of the pier and of me doing random things like playing with a bubble machine and riding kiddie rides (which is apparently becoming a theme in my videos). He nailed the tone and mood of the song so exquisitely…that aching feeling of loving someone who was never yours.”
The single appears on “Main Attraction”, Nolan’s forthcoming album, which is due on 17th October 2025. There’s a little of Loretta Lynn, Margo Price, and Patsy Cline threaded through these well-crafted country songs. Influenced by americana, western swing, honky tonk and classic country sounds and vibes, it’s an album that could have been released decades ago. These songs of love and longing range from upbeat numbers that get you moving to haunting balladry. Check it out.
