Video Premiere: Tawny Ellis “Edge of the World”

Here’s the emotive new single from LA-based singer-songwriter Tawny Ellis. The highlight of ‘Edge of the World’ is Ellis’s vocal performance; her sweetly melodic voice has a touch of grit in just the right places and follows a beautifully engaging tune. Daniel Lanois, the legendary musician and producer known for his work with U2, Bob Dylan and Emmylou Harris, contributes haunting pedal steel and keys on the song, lifting Ellis’s tenor guitar. As well as delivering fine musicianship, he also worked on the arrangement of ‘Edge of the World’, which is indeed masterfully crafted and arranged. Ellis says of working with the acclaimed Lanois: “It was a dream come true. Listening to him talk about music is a master class.”

The video, edited by Gordon Clark, was shot in Big Sur in the autumn of 2024. Those gorgeous ocean scenes and winding coastal roads place Ellis at the edge of her world, looking out to the horizon across an empty sea.

‘Edge of the World’ is the title track from Ellis’ brand new album, which is out now. The new collection is her sixth full-length release and comes a full five years after her last record, 2020’s “Love Life”, representing a period of emotional and creative rebirth. The multi-instrumentalist has mastered a range of instruments, including the tenor guitar, lap steel and mountain dulcimer, allowing her to add real richness and texture to her songs. Co-produced with Ellis’s husband, Gio Loria, at their home studio in Silver Lake, California, the new material mixes folk, pop, rock, and country into a lush blend. Check out the album now.
