Gratitude for the experience of fatherhood inspires Roger Street Friedman in his new video for ‘Thankful For This Day’. This lyric video features photos of Friedman’s children and wife throughout the years as he sings a simple but poignant paean to them. A string section soars but a tasteful baritone guitar keeps the whole affair grounded. ‘Thankful For This Day’ is from the new full length album ‘Love Hope Trust’ available now on all streaming services.
‘Love Hope Trust’ is the fourth installment in a second chance-era of musicality. Roger left music behind for 25 years before resurfacing with his acclaimed 2014 debut, ‘The Waiting Sky’. He returned to music after experiencing a series of seismic life changes, including the deaths of his father and mother, marriage and, later, the births of his two children.
“‘Thankful For This Day’ is a song inspired by my children and a bit of a love letter to them,” Friedman reflects. “It’s a reminder to all of us to be grateful for what we have in life and especially the love of family.”
The string section on this song was arranged by producer Larry Campbell and harmony vocals are provided courtesy of Teresa Williams, Lucy Kaplansky, Roger’s older brother Lev, and his 15-year-old daughter Alli.
“I feel like I’m on the right path, and I’m still growing. I think it took me longer to get smart enough to write these songs,” Friedman says with a good-natured laugh. “Now, I get to make up for lost time, and I am really lucky because I don’t have a lack of inspiration—something always comes to me when I sit down with my guitar.”
