In her latest single, Valerie June asks, “Are you ready to see // A world where we could all be free // As branches of an endless tree?” and this question is at the heart of this anthem for optimism and hope. There’s a sincerity and joy in June’s words and performance that is disarming, infectious and may just inspire people to pause and connect instead of divide. June’s distinctive Tennessee twang is raised up by triumphant musical layers and follows a gorgeous, catchy musical path. Directed by Neta Ben Ezra, the video is a vibrant, artful visual that draws us into June’s vision of a beautiful world.
June explains the song’s theme: “As we see so much divisiveness and polarisation in the world, this song asks listeners if they are ready for a more harmonious and peaceful planet. If what we focus on is what manifests, then, although we don’t always agree with each other, might it still be possible to respect our differences and grow together vs. creating wars? Trees have a secret language that connects them to each other. Without plants and trees, we couldn’t breathe. What can we learn from plants as teachers?”
‘Endless Tree’ is taken from the brand-new album “Owls, Omens, and Oracles”, which is out now. Produced by M. Ward, the album is a diverse, sonic feast that encourages people to come together to listen and love in the face of a rapidly changing and divided world. With her positivity, passion and zest for life, Valerie June is a magical, welcome voice for truth and antidote for cynicism and scepticism. Enjoy.
