Video: XIXA “Find You There”

The latest single from Tucson’s XIXA is the dark, cinematic “Find You There”.  The song is full of tension and atmospheric psychedelic styling.  A wonderful, hypnotic groove provides the foundation for Gabriel Sullivan and Brian López to deliver lead vocals and guitars that immediately draw listeners in and take them on a compelling musical journey.

The single is taken from the brand new studio album “Xolo”, which is out now on Jullian Records.  The third full-length release from XIXA is a concept album themed around a journey into the underworld guided by the sacred protector El Xolo; it’s inspired by the tale of a young girl, Arcoiris, as she journeys through the nine levels of Mictlán.  This ambitious concept has been translated into a series of distinct sonic chapters, carefully constructed and technically impressive.

The video for “Find You There” is a suitably moody, haunting visual directed by Nickolas Duarte.  He says of the cinematic video and the song: “The concept for the album is just so rich and beautiful. It translated really nicely visually to tell this dreamlike story of a soul traversing the underworld. For the actual depiction of Mictlán, we locked in on an ’80s narco/crime vibe with Aztec undertones and XIXA cast as the Xolo guide. The music already takes you to another world, so it made my job so much easier to create the visual element.”  Indeed, Duarte captures the feel of the song perfectly in this dark setting, adding intensity to the music.  This is haunting music to lose yourself in.  Be absorbed.
