Western States “Someone To Blame” – there’s a lot to spread around

The latest single from Western States hit the road on September 22nd, and it’s a fairly angry song.  Ok, it’s a very angry song as you’ll probably notice from the opening lines “Oh to that Son of a Bitch / Who repossessed my van / Fare thee well“, and follows up with a couple of tips to notice whilst driving said van.  There’s more than a slight feeling, though, that perhaps the band don’t feel so very unkindly towards the repo-man – he’s just doing his job.  The ethos of the song could be – “don’t succumb to te easy thing and go and blame the world for your own mess ups.”

Western States are a St. Louis based Midwestern rock ‘n’ roll band anchored by Tim Lloyd’s character driven songwriting. They lean, as you can hear, into the twangy Americana end of rock ‘n’ roll.  They’ve shared festival bills with a slew of roots music luminaries that include Margo Price, Hayes Carll, Shovels and Rope, and John Moreland.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
