Willie Nelson nudges his album count up

Willie Nelson has, apparently, 150 albums to his name.  We haven’t fact checked that, we’re taking it as the truth.  It sounds believable after all.  These include a number of albums that have the Texan legend covering the songs of others – people he really admires.   And so it is with his newly announced recording ‘I Don’t Know A Thing About Love‘ which features ten songs by Harlan Howard.  Harlan Howard was an early musical contemporary of Willie’s who famously defined a great country song as “three chords and the truth.

The album track listing is: Willie Nelson – I Don’t Know A Thing About Love
1. Tiger By The Tail
2. The Chokin’ Kind
3. Excuse Me (I Think I’ve Got A Heartache)
4. Life Turned Her That Way
5. I Don’t Know A Thing About Love
6. Streets Of Baltimore
7. Busted
8. She Called Me Baby
9. Too Many Rivers
10. Beautiful Annabel Lee

The album artwork was produced by Willie’s son Micah, and the band is Willie Nelson (Trigger, lead vocals), Larry Paxton (bass, tic tac bass), Lonnie Wilson (drums), Bobby Terry (acoustic guitar, electric guitar), James Mitchell (electric guitar), Mike Johnson (steel guitar), Mickey Raphael (harmonica), Jim “Moose” Brown (piano, synthesizer, B3 organ, Wurlitzer), Wyatt Beard (background vocals), and Melonie Cannon (background vocals).

The album is released on Sony Legacy on CD and download and a vinyl edition will come exclusively from Vinyl Me, Please.  Pressed on Blue Smoke vinyl, with lacquers cut by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound.  Sweet.

And here’s the kind of thing you can expect from the album.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
