Set for release on the 28th of March, “Mirabilia Mundi” is the latest album from Songdog, Welsh songwriter Lyndon Morgans’s main project for the past 25 years. Throughout the record’s 10 songs, Morgan continues his exploration of his favourite themes: time passing and the struggle to make sense of a disappearing world; a foreboding of things ending, and a looking back at long-lost glory days. And there are Easter Egglike nods to the earliest Songdog albums woven throughout for those who know them. Morgan is joined by fellow Songdog regular Karl ‘Pod’ Woodward, who provides piano and a distinctive Mellotron sound that peppers the album, plus new violinist Bethan Frieze. There’s a new producer, too, Al Steele (also known as guitarist with The Korgis).
Previous SongDog albums include 2022’s “Of Gods And Men” (which came out under Morgan’s own name), “A Happy Ending“, “Joy Street”, “Last Orders at Harry’s Bar”, “A Life Eroding”, “A Wretched Sinner’s Song”, “The Time Of Summer Lightning”, “Haiku” and ‘The Way Of The World” and were released to great reviews from us here at AUK Towers amongst many others. Follow the links in the titles for the reviews but here’s a quote that should tide you over: “Morgans’s songs create stark word snapshots and capture moments in a life of music, love, mistake, and regret. You only write these songs if you paid attention while living.”
