The beauty of Joe Hicks’ woodland surroundings matches the beauty of his song in our latest premiere. Along with ‘One More Step’, ‘Make it Home’ is a double-A side release, and it proves to be a confident follow-up to the well-received ‘Mirror, Mirror’. It’s a song full of compassion, offering reassurance to someone you love. Hicks says of the song: “‘Make It Home’ became a song for a loved one to say, no matter where chasing my dream takes me, no matter how busy or far away I am, I’ll always be there for you.” In this solo performance, his fluttering fingers pick out a lovely melody on the guitar, while his vocal delivery is pure and delicate. The result is a gentle, absorbing song that demonstrates his fine songcraft.
These are the first glimpses of Hicks’ forthcoming full-length album, which is due out later this year. Hicks was known initially for his work as a session musician, supporting others with their songs. However, his first solo single in 2017 led to Hicks becoming BBC Introducing Artist of the Week and his work featured on Clash Track of the Day. Thanks to festival appearances at CarFest, The Big Feastival and others, along with extensive touring, supporting the likes of Sam Fender and Starsailor, Hicks has amassed a large following. To date, he has more than 3,000,000 streams on Spotify, a following that’s growing all the time. Combining folk and pop influences and with fine writing and an ear for an engaging tune, Joe Hicks is one to watch. Enjoy.
