Deidre McCalla “I Do Not Walk This Path Alone” – It’s a long way from there to here

Deidre McCalla sings that “people of my ancestry died building this road for me / the fruit of their proud sacrifice comes down to me as my birth right” on this new song from her new album ‘Endless Grace‘.  It’s her first new album for some nineteen years, and features songs which in a simple and direct manner tell things how she sees them.  And that’s the perspective of a Black woman, mother, lesbian, feminist, and performing songwriter for almost fifty years, and the subjects she touches on range from young love to the horrors of the covid pandemic and the fragility of hard won freedoms and equalities as on today’s featured song.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
