Video Premiere: The One Eighties “Two Jet Planes”

Here’s the latest single from Raleigh-area duo The One Eighties, the new musical project from Daniel Cook and Autumn Brand, formerly of acclaimed band New Reveille.  ‘Two Jet Planes’ features gorgeous, sweeping sonic layers over powerful, hypnotic percussion; The haunting melody of Brand’s vocal floats perfectly with Allyn Love’s swooning pedal steel Guitar and keys from Charles Cleaver, which both add to the dreamy atmosphere.

Cook and Brand say of the song and video: “We started writing ‘Two Jet Planes’ a few years ago when the world still felt like it was in a state of limbo due to the pandemic. We wanted to write a song that touched on that feeling through two characters drifting into space. We shot the video at home as part of a series we’re doing called Living Room Sessions.”

‘Two Jet Planes’ is the third single taken from the forthcoming debut album ‘Minefields’, which is due for release on 18th August 2023.  The record was mastered by GRAMMY-Award winners Greg Calbi and Steve Fallone (Kasey Musgraves, The National, Father John Misty), who have helped the duo refine the haunting cross-genre sound that The One Eighties are quickly gaining a reputation for. Cook explains: “The album is called ‘Minefields’ because life is unpredictable.  Themes cover personal struggles, relationships, and emotional growth. It’s lamenting at times, playful at others. We hope there’s something in it for everyone!”  Brand continues: “At one point, during a near-mental breakdown, we dropped everything and wandered across the country.  We weren’t sure what we were looking for, but somehow in white sand dunes, deserts, great canyons, redwood forests, and cactus fields we found at least a sound. It would be an amalgamation of everything we loved—dreamy vocals, traditional roots instruments, 80s synthesizers, and layered strings. It had been two years, and we’d finally found the beginning.”  You can find out more about the album and its release through the duo’s Kickstarter campaign here.  Enjoy.
