Songs for the apocalypse: Del Amitri “Driving With the Brakes On”

Del Amitri always seem to me to be woefully underappreciated as a quality band, falling entirely unfairly into the realms of Coldplay for some critics despite songs to kill for and lead singer Justin Currie’s cracked, velvety vocals. ‘Driving With the Brakes On’ was the closing track to their ‘Twisted’ album from 1995 and has since been covered by artists such as Kasey Chambers. It still breaks my heart in two every time I hear it.

Totally agree, I often wonder why bands such as this are ignored, and other, bland, drab, predictable artists are lauded from the rooftops and played ad naseum on the radio….
