Well that’s it for another week dear reader. Our compilation and giveaway for AUK supporters goes out at 5pm tonight – find out how you can become one here. In the meantime, we leave you with a new version of a track from an album which I go back to time and time again – The Connells’ ‘Ring’ was released 30 years ago now (!) and was best known of course for the huge hit ”74-’75’ but the whole record is just lovely from start to finish. The label Craft Recordings is celebrating the anniversary with its first widely available vinyl reissue and a bonus-filled CD which among other things contains a previously unheard live acoustic version of the sublime closing track “Running Mary’. “For me the songwriting process can be somewhat accidental…” said guitarist and songwriter Mike Connell. “And often times, it’s only long after the fact that I realize that I really like a song. That was the case with ‘Running Mary.’ It’s become one of my favorite songs to perform live.” (If you want to hear the original incidentally, you can find that here). Oh for the simplicity of 30 years ago, faltering Tory government yes but without apocalyptic climate change and X. Imagine! Have a good one.
