Ringo Starr “Thankful” – with bluegrass royalty on board

Album art for Ringo Starr "Look Up"

Plucky Liverpudlian Ringo Starr is making a late-career bid to be the king of Americana with his upcoming and likely Grammy winning release ‘Look Up‘ and today’s track is the latest single from that album – which, incidentally, is out just too late for Christmas being released on the 10th of January. That would, though, fit in with a London album launch event during January’s AMAUK week – in Paper Dress Vintage, why not?  You heard it here first…come on Ringo, you know you want to.

On ‘Thankful‘ the Starr of The Beatles is joined by bonafide bluegrass legend Alison Krauss for a song that depicts a turnaround in fortunes after losing one’s direction in life as Starr makes a characteristic wish “for more peace and love.”

Ringo has worked with T Bone Burnett on ‘Look Up‘, and it features a host of guests. Starr sang and played drums (good choice!) on all the songs and co-wrote the album’s closer, ‘Thankful’, featuring Alison Krauss. Burnett enlisted some of Nashville’s finest and hottest talent for the record, including Billy Strings, Larkin Poe, Lucius, and Molly Tuttle.

Ringo is of course well-known as a musician, an actor, a photographer and author.  He had a stint as a male model – really? Well, it’s in the PR so it must be true.  Someone forgot to include it, but for a whole generation he was also, of course, the voice of Thomas The Tank Engine – so here’s a toot-toot salute to Dr Sir Ringo Starr, as we introduce the lyric video for ‘Tankful‘,….sorry, ‘Thankful‘.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
