Here’s the latest single from AUK favourites, The Hanging Stars. ‘Sweet Light’ delivers bright, shimmering guitars and uplifting, melodic vocals in the band’s distinctive style. Halfway through, there’s a change of pace and an absorbing musical interlude that takes us on mellow sonic journey. Throughout, the pedal steel from the outstanding Joe Harvey-White is dreamily cosmic and sends us floating heavenwards in a state of bliss. Singer and guitarist Richard Olson says that the, “…composition is a yearning anthem to a love once lost. The accompanying video is part-inspired by the British kitchen sink dramas of the 60s: picture a smoky nightclub situation, cigarettes tracing ladders, a band blowing Dixie, double four time… you get the drift – only filmed on a cold December morning at the band’s HQ The Betsey Trotwood pub in Clerkenwell, London.”
The accompanying video, filmed by Jon Riley, Ben Benson and Paul Kelly at The Betsey Trotwood, captures the band’s tight performances.
‘Sweet Light’ appears on the upcoming album from The Hanging Stars, ‘On a Golden Shore’, which will be released on 8th March. The follow-up to the acclaimed ‘Hollow Heart’ is highly anticipated and you can hear the new material on the cosmic cowboys’ UK tour – see the dates below. Enjoy.
