Iron & Wine “You Never Know” – What will you do on the world today?

You Never Know‘ is a first advance release from the upcoming seventh album ‘Light Verse‘ from Sam Beam’s band Iron & Wine.  It’s been seven years since the last full album ‘Beast Epic‘, so it’s safe to say that a lot of people are looking forward to the release day of April 26th with the keenest of anticipation.

‘You Never Know’ touches on the unfathomable vagaries of life, asking “Don’t you want to know / How far you’re gonna go / fickle as tomorrow“.  It’s mostly optimistic though, noting a series of good possibilities that can be embraced, they might not be earth-shattering in their significance but they could be positively life-changing nonetheless.

Iron & Wine head out on tour for most of the Summer, but only in North America.  Drat.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
