The original version of ‘You’re Mine’ was recorded as a trio with his touring band, bassist Lauren Stockner and drummer Pete Marin, with support from Jessy Greene (Foo Fighters) on strings. He says: “It’s a song that is quite vulnerable and open in its lyrics but with the music it has such a powerful and triumphant feel to it that I enjoyed mixing those two elements together. It was also a song that I knew had to have strings on it. We were very lucky to have Jessy Greene who has done a lot of work with the Foo Fighters add these beautiful strings.”
However, when played in its raw state like this, it becomes something completely new, with a strength of feeling that is, perhaps, even more powerful. Anderson told AUK about the new version of the song: “I’m excited to share this stripped down solo version of my song ‘You’re Mine’…I always love stripping a song back to its most naked version because it always reveals another level of vulnerability especially as a songwriter. We filmed it in a beautiful house in Cape Schanck (Melbourne, Australia) which was the same location that we filmed the official music video for the song.” The Cape Schanck House is a beautiful backdrop for the gorgeous, stripped-back recording. The grainy, soft-focus film gives ‘You’re Mine’ a retro feel and takes the song out-of-time.
Due on 11th October 2024, Anderson’s forthcoming album, the aptly-named ‘Electric’, is a celebration of the power of the electric guitar and a range of influences are evident in his new material: inspirational acts T-Rex, Hendrix, Page and contemporary performers like Artic Monkeys. The new record was put together in-between tours supporting Gary Clark Jr. and George Thorogood & The Destroyers in 2023, with production by Anderson alongside David Davis (The War On Drugs). The new album promises to blend fresh sounds with 1970s blues-rock, creating songs that feel new and yet familiar at once. Look out for ‘Electric’, but enjoy this first.
