Soundtrack your sunny summer days with the melody and grooving rhythms of The Sons of Guns. The band’s latest song is the glorious ‘You Shine the Sun’, a song that starts gently, with just delicate acoustic guitar accompanying David Zinke’s warm voice. Steadily, the band adds percussion and more instrumental layers, and sweetly tuneful harmonies, until the song soars; it’s insistent, compelling, and, above all, it’s a musical adventure.
Despite being formed in France, the band only features one French musician, Aymeric Ardimanni. He is joined by English group members David Zincke, Scott Richman, Jack Daniel, and Frankie Connolly. Based in Nice, the five multi-instrumentalists have gained lots of local support through their inventive, joyful jamming sessions in ski resorts and across the Riviera. This is the title track from the band’s debut EP, a collection that reflects a range of influences and styles, including Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Jackson Browne and Muddy Waters, all blended with a touch of 1970s psychedelia.
Zincke says of the new songs: “This EP is more than just a bunch of songs, it’s a family story, really. Three of us are cousins, and we’ve been playing music together most of our lives. It started in a little house in Doncaster, but the roots go even further back. To a small family home in Bombay, India, where our family comes from. Music has always been a thread through the generations. These six songs are a snapshot of where we’ve ended up so far, written and recorded with a lot of love, a few bruises, and a real sense of togetherness.” Love and togetherness – a perfect combination and good summary of the band’s priorities and style. Enjoy.
