To be totally honest – and this isn’t the first time – it always comes as a bit of a surprise that we’re featuring Norah Jones, who adds piano and additional vocals on this latest song by Lucinda Williams from her upcoming album “World’s Gone Wrong” (out January 23rd). That’s probably because we’d normally box her in to a sort of jazz-pop area of music, but there’s no denying that she does add more than a little to this new single from Lucinda Williams, so fair play.
Anyway, the song is actually a lot more serious than that – who cares who’s singing when we’re addressing in song a need to endure in the face of hardship, injustice and the moral struggle to retain the higher ground whilst also upholding an unwavering resolve to continue forward. What, you may wonder, could have inspired such a song? Hold on, we’re just rolling our eyes at that thought. It’s not an easy time for the world – and some of the more advanced and supposedly enlightened democratic countries seem to think it’s time to roll back all sorts of rights and societal norms in favour of preferential treatment for just certain parts of their citizenry. And Williams and Jones would appear to be saying no to that – no going back.
