Nobody Else is the latest single from Nashville-based musician Maya de Vitry. The lush, layered arrangement features Jo Schornikow’s sustained keys and twisting, bending notes of pedal steel from Spencer Cullum, sounding both sweetly melodic and mournful at once. Moving forward with light percussion and softly rhythmic upright bass from Dom Billett and Ethan Jodziewicz, respectively, Nobody Else is a beautifully engrossing piece of music. Over these gorgeous layers, de Vitry’s voice, lifted by fine backing, is intimate and well-controlled, seeming almost effortless in her lilting, tuneful delivery.
The song explores the challenges in a long-term relationship, and de Vitry describes it as, “…an ode to the tension and tenderness of growing pains in a long-term relationship, and it specifically takes place after a fight in the kitchen over who knows what. Some days we are civil to strangers, but then we come home and take things out on the people who are closest to us.” Her thoughtful words match the sophisticated songwriting.
De Vitry says of Nobody Else: “This song has definitely made me a better partner. I’ve had to do a lot of growing up emotionally to be able to get to a place of thriving in my relationship. It’s pretty wild how defensive we can be, how avoidant we can be, or just how insensitive we can be to the people who matter the most to us. They really do see us unravel our wounds; they see the spirals we get into, the doubts. Maybe this song can help even one couple out there to zoom out and spark conversation about their communication and the heart of their togetherness, or maybe work through the revisiting and healing of a challenging moment. I am so grateful for what relationships in general have revealed to me about life.”
Maya de Vitry’s new album, All My Faith, will be released on 24th July 2026. Self-produced by de Vitry, her fifth full-length album was recorded in just three days, in real time with no edits, demonstrating the talents of de Vitry’s fine band of players. The video for Nobody Else is the studio recording captured at the time, showing the musicians working together in The Tractor Shed in Goodlettsville, TN. Both before and after the music, we see everyone involved chatting, laughing, and we get a sense of the camaraderie amongst the group; delightful to see.
Released through her own Mad Maker Studio label, the album explores de Vitry’s faith. She explains: “Faith is woven into the fabric of my life in music—faith in what is possible in a relationship when I am the truest version of myself; faith in strangers opening their hearts to my songs; faith in this wild idea that sharing stories of our shared human condition can pull us toward compassion and gratitude. We’re just these hungry and thirsty bodies wandering this planet in our brief and intersecting lifetimes, and I have faith in how we can be each other’s keepers, each other’s teachers. I’m finding a new faith in imperfection, a new faith in ‘mistakes.’ I’m living this faith that love—real, nuanced, imperfect love—is simply so worthy of an endeavor.” Thoughtful, sensitive songwriting from a fine musician, one to immerse yourself in.
