Jerry Leger and the Situation return to the UK

Following a successful first tour of Europe last year, Canadian Jerry Leger returns to the UK for a series of shows with Dan Mock on bass and Kyle Sullivan on drums – both players in Jerry’s band, The Situation. To coincide with the tour, Jerry has released a compilation titled ‘Too Broke To Die: A Retrospective 2005–2019’ which came out on March 29th.

‘Too Broke To Die’ features songs taken from all 9 albums of Jerry Leger’s 14 year musical career, plus two outtakes, and includes cuts from his most recent release (‘Nonsense and Heartache’ – which came out in the UK in 2018). The album featured as one of Americana UK’s best album releases of 2018, of which it was said:

“A double album is enough of a rarity these days, but even more so is one that’s able to navigate such different territory across both sides of a record, ranging from the bluesy more electric feel of its opening eight numbers to the more considered, reflective and acoustic sounding side two. It’s also a measure of Jerry Leger’s burgeoning creativity that this gifted Canadian songwriter is capable of producing material in such quantity without comprising the high quality of the songs on offer.”

Speaking recently to Americana UK about the launch of the compilation, Leger said: “It seemed like a good idea as we’ve been gaining traction and I’ve released all these albums that sort of went under the radar and barely anyone heard them. It felt cool to put a compilation together to reintroduce what I’ve done over the years to fans that have gotten into the last one or two albums. I’ve seen other artists put together Spotify playlists but I thought this would be a better way to have a retrospective playlist that you can stream if you’d like to, or treat like a real release.”

33-year old Leger has received praise from fellow songwriters such as Ron Sexsmith (a couple of ‘Too Broke To Die’ tracks feature Sexsmith), Jim Lauderdale and Michael Timmins (of Cowboy Junkies, who is also Leger’s producer/label head at Latent Recordings).
