Jenny Lewis has announced UK tour dates to promote the release of her fourth solo album, ‘On The Line,’ which came out on the 22nd of March. A five year hiatus since her last album, ‘The Voyager,’ her latest record is heavily influenced by the death of her mother and the end of her twelve-year relationship to Jonathan Rice.
The former Rilo Kiley frontwoman has previously worked with an interesting array of talented singers and musicians, including Elvis Costello, the Watson Twins, Conor Oberst, Ben Gibbard, and M. Ward and ‘On The Line’ proves to be no exception. Lewis has arrayed a star-studded “backing band” for her latest album which includes contributions from the likes of Beck and Ryan Adams – both of whom she’s worked with before – Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Trench, Rolling Stones producer Don Was, session drummer Jim Keltner, and Ringo Starr – the latter supposedly following an invitation from Don Was.
As the album was recorded before the recent furore about Ryan Adams, Lewis has since issued a statement on Twitter to say: “I am deeply troubled by Ryan Adams’ alleged behaviour. Although he and I had a professional working relationship, I stand in solidarity with the women who have come forward.”
However, Lewis is obviously determined not to let the allegations about Ryan Adams overshadow the achievements of what is probably her strongest record to date, and it’s hoped the forthcoming tour will further cement her reputation as a singer-songwriter of considerable talent.
