Mark Erelli “Her Town Now” – Listen

Today we’ve got something special for you – all the Tracks are special of course, but some are just more equal than others.  In this example it’s a case of “two songwriters good….” as 2019 Americana Music Award for Song of the Year nominee Mark Erelli has teamed with Green on Red (and so very very very much more since) guitar enlightened being Chuck Prophet to write a slice of perfect heartbroken rock.

Mark’s nomination was for ‘By Degrees’,  a song which also features Rosanne Cash, Sheryl Crow, Lori McKenna, Anais Mitchell, and Josh Ritter. The profits from that song are donated to Giffords: The Courage to Fight Gun Violence, the organization founded by former Arizona congresswoman Gabby Giffords.  So, Mark Erelli is a good guy. He’s also playing the American version of Americana Fest.  Not as good, some might say, as playing the AMA-UK’s Americanafest in a shiveringly cold January in downtown Hackney, but, you know, he’s still looking forward to treading the boards at The Ryman in Nashville.

Her Town Now‘ catches the hard side of a breakup, the bit when one discovers that the ex- was the popular one “all her friends, were my friends too / I lost them the day she moved” and that seeing her around town is a stab in the heart each time.  For the recording Mark Erelli had a great band of Jamie Dick (drums), Zachariah Hickman (bass), Sadler Vaden (6 & 12-string electric guitars), Kai Welch (piano, Hammond organ).

Listen – and enjoy!

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
