Andrew Combs is best known, to date, for his Laurel Canyonesque singer-songwriter albums but this is all set to change with his new album ‘Ideal Man’ which is released today. ‘Ideal Man‘ sees Combs set aside his acoustic side on several songs in favour of atmospheric synthesisers and distorted electric guitars.
With ‘Ideal Man’ Andrew Combs decided to record at Sam Cohen’s Jupiter Recordings in Brooklyn. It led to a new approach to recording for Combs as he expounds “in the past, I’ve tended to pursue a studio sound that was really polished and clean, but I wanted to do something different this time, and I knew that working with Sam would lead to more of a loose, psychedelic, spaced-out vibe. We did everything live in the studio, even my vocals, and there’s a sense of immediacy and discovery in those early takes that you can’t recreate.” Listening to ‘Dry Eyes‘ explains exactly what he’s talking about.
