Just 500 copies of the outstanding second album from Steve Forbert will be available on red coloured vinyl – so don’t hang around thinking about it. The reason for the re-issue? It’s forty years since the original release. Yeah, sorry to be the one to tell you that.
Steve Forbert (and you can read our appreciation of him here) had released his debut album a year earlier, the superb ‘Alive on Arrival‘ but it was the follow up ‘Jackrabbit Slim‘ that provided that all essential big hit in the form of ‘Romeo’s Tune‘. It can’t be overestimated how important that was, as Steve says himself “‘Jackrabbit Slim‘ was the release that put me on the map and gave me the audience that’s still with me today. Every singer/songwriter needs one of these!”.
To further celebrate this 40th anniversary, Forbert will perform ‘Jackrabbit Slim‘ in its entirety at The Iridium in New York City on December 5th. “ I’m preparing my New Jersey-based band for the show and I’m having no problem still relating to the stories in these songs. ‘Romeo’s Tune,’ which I’ve sung hundreds of times, is still fun! And I’m still totally down with ‘It’s often said that life is strange, but compared to what?’”.
Indeed! And here’s the boy himself live in concert from 1979. Let it rock Steve!
