This strange year is marked by Danny Schmidt on his new release ‘2020 Vision’, which is a play on words as he relates “2020 has been an extraordinary and challenging year. It’s been surreal to live through, in real time, what will almost certainly be the most significant defining event of our generation…without the historical hindsight which always makes historic outcomes appear inevitable. Because while hindsight might, indeed, be 20/20…the year 2020 in real time has felt incredibly blurry, distorted, twisted, and astigmatic.”
And the song captures that feeling perfectly – where friends become strangers to avoid, the young who want nothing more than to run free are constrained and above it all a joker makes endless contradictory statements which lead to the conclusion that “a plan is a guess where the jester insists that he’s right“. There will be many songs of this pandemic, but few will capture the feelings of lockdown quite so simply and honestly as Danny Schmidt has “Oh 2020, you’re fading away / Your weeks into months and your months into days / As they all blur together like tears on the page.”
