Layla Kaylif’s latest single was inspired by the 13th century Persian poet Rumi and is a reflection on the nature of love and the inner-relationship with the Divine. She explains: “What people don’t realise is that Rumi, was a Muslim mystic, and is in the same spiritual stream as people like Teresa of Avila, and even Wordsworth. They have transcended their own particular religions and achieved as sort of union with the God.”
It’s the title track from her brand new album, which blends folk, country and Americana stylings, lyrically rooted in great literature. Kaylif is known for engaging and poetic lyrics, such as: “Lovers don’t finally meet some place where they don’t belong…or in the lines of a song // because lovers are in each other all along.” Equally beautiful are the locations used in the video, reflecting the additional theme of pilgrimage.
