Icarus Phoenix tap artist Cat Palmer to star in their new video for ‘Nostalgia for Arannis Morissette, the Half-Elf Bard’. As Drew Danburry’s track tells the tale of being inspired by other songwriters, taking on the life of a troubadour and ultimately fatherhood, Palmer is seen in her art studio assembling a collage on a box top. While the images on screen and the lyrics don’t seem to have anything in common at first glance, they are somehow compelling companions for each other.
Danburry describes the song and video: “I wrote the song in studio at June Audio in Provo, Utah. We came prepped with about 38 songs and I wrote two more in the three days we spent tracking. This was one of them. I was thinking about how my life had been changed by people who write songs…this thought combined with how my son had recently asked me to grow a wizard’s beard coupled with the idea that songs themselves are a sort of spell being cast. I guess that’s why I made the words what they are. Sometimes people don’t hear what you’re saying. Don’t feel what you’re feeling and there’s nothing you can do about it. Just move on and write another song I guess? I’ve been pen pals with Cat Palmer since we were fifteen years old. She’s an amazing artist, activist, and photographer. We still write handwritten letters to each other. I love her art and I love who she is as a person. I pitched her the idea to make a piece of art inspired by the song “Nostalgia for Arannis Morissette, the Half-Elf Bard” and let me film the process. I hired Arielle Nelson who is an amazing editor to put the shots together and that’s what we got. Documenting the process of making art, inspired by art, to create more art.”
