Check out Richard Koechli’s distinctive voice and guitar in his beautifully produced new single. In troubled times, we’ve all felt that compulsion to retreat but resignation rarely sounds so good. From his opening lines, we’re absorbed: “Lord, I feel like going home // I tried and I failed and I’m tired and so weary // Everything I ever done was wrong // I feel like going home.” There are gorgeous musical interludes, with Michael Dolmetsch’s Hammond B3 sounding particularly impressive. Alongside Koechli, jazz singer Bruno Amstad’s vocal is full of character. The accompanying video offers a narrative of a soldier returning home. Koechli’s laid-back, weary blues is perfect for ‘Feel Like Going Home’, a song written by Charlie Rich in 1971. Well-known as a session musician and songwriter for Sun Records, Rich worked with the best and this is a great example of his song craft.
Koechli is an award-winning Swiss guitarist and singer-songwriter, known for his excellent slide guitar. Look out for his new album and accompanying book ‘Holy Blues’, through which he explores the gospel history that connects blues, folk, country and more, all the roots music that we love. It’s a journey through the history of American culture and explores the ways music has been influenced by faith, featuring interpretations of timeless holy blues songs. This is music to sit back, close your eyes and absorb. Enjoy.
