‘Hibernate‘ is a new song by Boston singer-songwriter Jessye DeSilva, which is taken from their new album ‘Landscapes.‘ It conjures up images of hunkering down and finding a warm and safe space in difficult times – which may reflect the changes of the last couple of years. Jessye DeSilva also says that this, and the rest of ‘Landscapes‘ reflects on their upbringing and the trauma of growing up queer in a strict Baptist household. Things are never o simple though, as Jessye DeSilva’s musical direction also draws on their childhood piano lessons and years spent singing in their father’s Baptist church.
There’s a definite ’70s feel to ‘Hibernate’, reflecting a love of classic albums by Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, and Jackson Browne. As Jessye says “I’ve done a lot of healing this year in terms of my childhood and the interwoven dynamics of my family and how that has affected who I am and how I move through the world today. I think that in many ways — maybe not totally consciously – those early musical influences from my parents showed up in the writing, arranging, and recording of this album.”
