Shaina Hayes, the Quebec singer-songwriter, has released her second album ’Kindergarten Heart’ on 23rd February. The final single to be released from it is the title track, a lightly bouncy song where the lyrics slot into the rhythm as a series of images.  These in turn draw from childhood memories on the one hand and the pressures of modern life on the other. The lyric finds Hayes trying to recreate the joy of her ‘kindergarten heart’.

Hayes grew up in Shigawake, a small coastal town on the Quebec shore of the Gulf of St Lawrence.  She went to agricultural college in Montreal but took up music as well.  It was here she first met Ledoux and Marchand.  They worked with her on her debut ‘coax a waltz’ (2022) , before the pandemic intervened.  The album was eventually released in 2022.Hayes’ career certainly seems to be on the up.  Recording of ‘Kindergarten Heart’ started in 2022 and completed late 2023 and since then she has been opening for artists like The War on Drugs and The Barr Brothers.
