A Circle Of Friends “Not Alone On The Floor” – not about dancing

A Circle Of Friends is a Danish Americana/Indie-Folk band whose members have notched up a few years experience in previous bands and musical ventures.  They aim to bring a Danish twist to their take on Americana, embracing the genre without irony but not forgetting that they are not children of the Appalachians.  Judging from ‘Not Alone On The Floor‘ there is just a chance that they have, at some point, listened to The Lumineers.  There’s a touch of ‘Ho Hey’ about the song.

There is a seriousness behind the song though, as it was written for a friend struggling with alcoholism who finally stopped lying to himself and decided to win back control of his own life.  The band also see it as a support for everybody struggling, and for the friends standing by, whilst dancing with the demons of their own.

A Circle Of Friends are Thea Damgaard: double bass, banjo, vocals; Julie Krogsbøll: violin, double bass, vocals; Emil Meinild: guitars, dobro, mandolin, banjo; Asger Søgaard Hajslund: guitars, banjo, double bass, keyboards, vocals; Morten Overgaard: drums, percussion, vocals; and Alex Nyborg Madsen: vocals.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
