Amanda Shires has given a radical makeover to Lady Gaga’s ‘Highway Unicorn (Road to Love)’ for her new ‘Born This Way: The Tenth Anniversary’ album which also includes remade versions of Gaga’s songs by Orville Peck, Big Freedia, and, um, Kylie. Shires, who is performing on behalf of the Highwomen is joined by Brittney Spencer and Madeline Edwards for a version which loses the spiky synths and instead, as RS puts it, is located “somewhere between Fleetwood Mac and Banarama. It’s still a brisk enough tempo for dancing, but the darkly twanging guitars and piano deepen the sense of foreboding.”
In other Highwomen happenings, Natalie Hemby from the band released the song ‘Heroes’ last week, which deals with the topic of celebrity worship culture. Maybe some little monsters will hear it!
