Americana UK’s Halloween Horrors – ’tis the season of… the witch!

Come in, come in – mind the cobwebs. Take a seat… NO! No, not there, that seat is…well, never mind, never mind. I expect you’re wondering what this is all about, we had hoped that the title Americana UK’s Halloween Horrors might have been a bit of a hint, but, well, never mind, never mind.

In celebration of the upcoming festivities this Friday, Americana UK are offering up a daily song to chill and thrill you, dear listener. They are all taken from the fine new compilation “Chilling, Thrilling Hooks And Haunted Harmonies: The Big Stir Records Halloween Grimoire” from our friends at Big Stir Records. It’s an album which features a host of artists who play in the various subgenres of power pop and americana-adjacent music. There are too many to feature everyone, but this deluxe 2 LP release on Eerie Green vinyl (or a CD, should you prefer a more… prosaic… option) is well worth a listen in full – and comes complete with a spooky boardgame to play whilst you listen. Whoooo. Sorry, just a passing phantom.

Today, we start with the contribution from Librarians With Hickeys, who want you to become acquainted with the… ‘Ghoul You Want‘.

Should you be looking for an appropriately ghoulish literary accompaniment from the Haunted Library, you could do worse than H.P. Lovecraft’s tale “Pickman’s Model.

Listen to our weekly podcast presented by AUK’s Keith Hargreaves!

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
