April Moon “The Lord Hath Taken Away” – giving with one hand…

April Moon are that rare thing – a Canadian duo from the prairie province of Saskatchewan who are currently based deep in the heart of Americana UK land.  Liverpool.  Liverpool UK.  Jaime April & Jason Moon perform what they describe as Canadiana which is, they say “like Americana but you keep your socks on.”   Perfect then for a UK winter with intermittent power cuts…

The lively and down-home stompy ‘The Lord Hath Taken Away‘ draws on stories told by Jaime April’s grandmother about growing up on the prairies right after the Great Depression and touches on loss, superstition and falling in love.  It manages to cross an almost old timey sensibility with a steam train powering along rocking feel.  ‘The Lord Hath Taken Away‘ is taken from the duo’s upcoming album to be released in November, which they’ll be supporting with a string of live shows around Liverpool and in the Wirral before they head off to the blessed lands of the EU for a Winter tour.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
