The new song from Blue Rose Code opens with the line “It’s been a long time coming“, and they’re right – it’s been some while since we’ve heard from Blue Rose Code here at Americana UK but they are back with a new album called ‘Bright Circumstance.’ Written by Ross Wilson over the last eighteen months between Galson in the Isle of Lewis, the Whitstable seafront, and his new home in the People’s Republic of Liverpool, ‘Bright Circumstance’ is the summation of a lifetime of making music and the role of fatherhood.
Lead off single ‘Jericho‘ is a punchy, exuberant riot of a song – there’s definitely a good time going on somewhere. Speaking of the new album as a whole Ross has said “The title comes from a moment in meditation when the kalyana-mitta talked about being aware of now, of being present, of ‘this bright circumstance’. I’d been struggling for weeks to come up with a title that would evoke what the record is about. It’s about joie de vivre, it’s about trials and travails, it’s about the gamut of experience, one day at a time, this Bright Circumstance.”
Unlocking the code to joy. This place of worship was sadly declared redundant just five years short of its centenary…
Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
I like this song (Jericho), and I like this singer Ross Wilson and his pedal-steel guitarist too – an excellent musical presentation in the key of human, which I especially enjoy now that I’m retired. I’m a new Blue Rose Code fan.
