Calexico “Rambler” – Listen

Following up on their recent album ‘El Mirado‘ (which we really liked, read the review here), which has been described as eminently danceable (and you know how we like to dance, just not in lines….) Calexico have a new single ‘Rambler‘ which can only be said to be following in the same vein.

Co-founding member of the band Joey Burns says the track is inspired by time spent in the Northwest, from Idaho and Montana to Oregon and Washington. “Throughout these travels I kept seeing ghosts looking for someone to sing their stories.  When John [Covertino] and I met up to record, the music came together in a flash, and you can feel that spark of spontaneity between the acoustic guitar and drums when you listen. Later on we added some slide guitar (Connor Gallaher) and backing vocals (Luke Ydstie) to build splashes of colour and character.”

So – prepare to be swept away – and if you want to do a Desert Rock Boogie (not a euphemism) whilst you listen then who are we to gainsay you?

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
